Breast Surgery Recovery
Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure. The techniques are constantly being refined to allow women to recover from the surgery and resume their daily routine in the shortest possible timeframe. A seasoned breast surgeon will make your procedure less invasive so that the post-operative recovery is relatively quick.
However, there are certain steps you can take to achieve maximum benefit. At your initial consultation, your surgeon will explain the do’s and don’ts for a safe recovery.
Estimated Breast Augmentation Recovery Time
Breast enhancement plastic surgery usually requires the patient to keep all physical activities to a minimum for 3 – 7 days. This is before they can slowly resume strenuous tasks. Your downtime amount and the time needed for making a complete recovery will depend on where the incisions were made. It also depends on the size of implants and whether they are placed above or below the pecs.
Specific instructions will be provided by the surgeon to make sure that the breast enhancement recovery time is as painless and short as possible. You should follow these instructions to attain years of satisfaction from the surgery.
Initial Two Weeks
Recovery time may be uncomfortable for the first 24 – 48 hours after a breast enhancement surgery. It is common for patients to experience fatigue and pain. Medications may help you manage your pain, but soreness and discomfort may persist. You should get a spouse, friend, or a family member involved to care for you while you recover.
Gauze dressing is applied immediately to the incision site after the breast augmentation surgery. This will be removed after a few days and replaced with a surgical bra. Stitches would be removed after 7 – 10 days.
First Few Months
Your breasts may remain sensitive for the first few weeks following a breast augmentation surgery. They may remain swollen for up to five weeks. You should avoid any physical contact with your breasts until the sensitivity subsides. This is to reduce the risk of delayed recovery and injury. Patients should wait for a month following the surgery before resuming exercise and strenuous activity.
You should be careful and not become too impatient about resuming physical activity and your normal exercise regimen. You may injure your breasts if you don’t allow the required recovery time. Ultimately, you may need even more recovery time. This may diminish the quality of results as well. The recovery process should be discussed at length by anyone considering this procedure.
Scars After Breast Implants Surgery
Incision scars will be firm and pink for a period of six months following the breast enhancement procedure. They will begin fading over the next few months. But, they will never disappear completely. The location of these scars will be determined by the implant placement technique and the incision site. Scars in a successful breast enhancement surgery remain inconspicuous in most cases.
